Ort's yard as of today.

William Orten “Ort” Carlton is still waiting to hear whether he’ll have to serve a stint behind bars, but his yard is finally, FINALLY cleaned up, according to his attorney, Bill Overend.

“Athens Habitat For Humanity graciously lent a hand yesterday and today, and Ort’s yard is now surely in compliance,” Overend said. “They have also addressed the sliding glass door issue that was the subject of discussion last Monday when the judge ordered Ort to jail.

“Habitat has some funds available for low-income homeowners to apply for and receive aid in keeping their homes safe and up to code. They’ve done an awesome job helping Ort get across the finish line.”

Overend is attempting to appeal a five-day sentence for probation violation handed down by Municipal Court Judge Leslie Spornberger Jones stemming from several quality-of-life citations Ort has received in the past year-and-a-half. But the county attorney’s office is arguing that probation revocations can’t be appealed under Georgia law.

Spornberger held a hearing Monday afternoon but has not ruled on whether the appeal can move forward.
