People for a Better Athens is turning out its members to today's 7 p.m. Athens-Clarke County Commission meeting at City Hall, where commissioners are set to approve Selig Enterprises' development at the Armstrong & Dobbs site near downtown.
The group is urging the commission to table a special use request for the development while citizens review Commissioner Kelly Girtz's proposed changes.
Meanwhile, BikeAthens updated its stance on the development in light of Girtz's commission-defined option. The alternative transportation group said it's in favor of the 10-foot-wide, separated bike path Girtz has proposed instead of Selig's five-foot bike lane, as well as his more level connection to Firefly Trail.
BikeAthens also expressed concern about the development's 1,475 parking spaces and recommended that change its zoning code to encourage more bike parking and fewer spaces for cars.
