The Atlanta City Council rejected plans Monday for a Walmart-anchored development near Lindbergh Station in Buckhead.

Jeff Fuqua's $90 million plans for the 22-acre site, including 200,000 square feet of retail space, 200 apartments, 100 more apartments aimed at seniors and a park, were rejected by a 7-6 vote. Neighbors say they oppose big-box development and want the area to stay residential.

The plans are similar to Selig Enterprises' proposal for a mixed-use development near downtown Athens. The company has been silent on its plans for months, although, according to rumors Selig won't confirm, it's renewed its option to buy at least parts of the former Armstrong & Dobbs property and surrounding parcels off Oconee Street.
