Over a dozen protesters rallied outside U.S. Rep. Paul Broun's Atlanta Highway district office Friday to voice their grievances about the government shutdown.

They held signs condeming Broun's involvement with the Republican Party tactics to "hold the American people and businesses hostage" by using the shutdown as a means to defund the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

Michael Goodroe, a professor at the University of North Georgia, says the government is not working.

"It's upsetting, because I'm beginning to refer to us as the divided states of America," he says. "It's not us."

Two other particpants, Jeff Hargens and Michelle Golden, joined the protest because they see Paul Broun as "part of the problem."

"I feel like getting people like Broun out of office is the only way to secure a future for my child," says Golden.
