Snow Days

Bundled up in scarves and mittens,
jackets, hats and boots,
The children running in the snow
never wary of the cold,
stop to build a snowman high—
Bottom up with
twigs for arms and
rocks for nose, mouth and eyes.

Picking snow up from the ground,
tossing against the trunks of trees;
They slide down on dark blue sleds,
skidding along the snow and ice.
School is closed,
and Mom's inside
cuddled with blankets
and hot coffee—
watching the kids
frolic and play.

Snow days;
Fun and peaceful.
Rare and beautiful—
And the world rests.
