For the first time, Creature Comforts' double IPA, Cosmik Debris, will be for sale in stores and in bars in cans as well as on draft later this month.
Cosmic Debris clocks in at 8% ABV and features Simcoe, Idaho 7, Mosaic, Cascade and Eureka hops, but it doesn’t come close to the tongue-numbing bitterness of a lot of double IPAs; instead, it’s citrus-y with toned-down pine and a solid malt backbone. It's a seasonal release, so pick some up as soon as you can—and make sure it's fresh.
Artist James Barsness will be signing the cans he designed at a launch party Wednesday from 5–7 p.m. at Cine.
On Apr. 4, all three local breweries—CC, Terrapin and Southern Brewing Co.—are teaming up with 5&10 for a beer dinner. It’s part of the Athens Beer Week festivities leading up to the Classic City Brew Fest. The flyer with a menu is below.
Terrapin’s also celebrating its 14th anniversary Apr. 9. Tickets are $25—$5 will go to Nuci’s Space—and available here.
Further down the road, Instagram/art/marketing thingy My Athens is sponsoring the Apps & Taps Invitational, a craft beer festival in conjunction with the Twilight Criterium on May 7 (a week later than usual).
Twenty-four craft breweries, including Creature Comforts, Westbrook, Dogfish Head and Orpheus, will serve samples of their core products along with seasonal and/or limited release brews. In addition, six local restaurants will serve small plates. The full list of breweries and restaurants will be announced on the event’s Facebook page.
Last year, a similar event ran into some trouble because of a conflict between local and state alcohol catering laws, but those problems apparently have been fixed.
Tickets are $45 and available here. Proceeds will benefit Athens Area Habitat for Humanity.
