After a bit of stop-and-start in construction, Atlanta's Grindhouse Killer Burgers will open on Lumpkin Street tomorrow (Friday the 13th—no coincidence).
The small chain, owned by a perfectionist who spent crazy amounts of time finding exactly the right buns to serve when he opened his original location in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, focuses on simplicity rather than excess, with burgers that are manageable, not huge, and made with care.
It also serves veggie burgers, beer and milkshakes (some with booze) and will be screening horror movies all day in celebration of its opening (at 11 a.m.). Some in the neighborhood have objected to the name and the buxom lady who adorns the restaurant's sign, but it's a big improvement over the shuttered gas station that sat on the lot for years.
Little City Diner, which will take over the building at 135 Cherokee Rd. in Winterville that has housed a number of restaurants, is, it turns out, a project from the folks behind Big City Bread. So, yay! It should be open in a couple of weeks. It also has a Facebook page and a cute logo with a chicken.
Also: Little Bull is open on Broad downtown, and both Quickly and Botanas are officially done-zo. And a brand-new sign at Treehouse on Broad suggests that Luna Bakery's long, long awaited Ideal Bagel may actually open.
