If you still miss Rashe's Cuisine, and its delivery option isn't enough for you, you might want to know that Rashe Malcom is launching an Indiegogo to purchase a food trailer. It kicks off tomorrow, Friday, Mar. 23, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Jittery Joe's Roaster on Barber Street. The AthensMade-sponsored event will offer free samples of Rashe's food and lunch plates for $10, with profits going toward the food trailer.
Also this weekend, on Saturday morning, Athens Farmers Market will kick off its season (yay!) at Bishop Park, about two weeks earlier than usual. Athens-area farmers have been investing in high tunnels, a greenhouse-like innovation that enables an earlier start to the growing season. Wednesday evening markets at Creature Comforts start Apr. 11. You can find a list of vendors and upcoming events on AFM's website.
Also this Saturday, at noon, is the fourth annual School Lunch Challenge, organized by UGA's Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies and taking place at Whitehead Road Elementary School. It's sold out, but it'll be interesting to see which team manages to create the most delicious dish in accordance with USDA guidelines for the National School Lunch Program. The winning team’s plate will be served at CCSD school lunch during the 2018–19 school year. Competitiors include teams from the Last Resort (which won last year), Taziki's Mediteranean Cafe, Dondero's Kitchen and the Northeast Georgia Food Bank.
