As y'all know (or should know), Ciné, our only art-house theater, is also a nonprofit, and like all nonprofits, it needs to raise money apart from ticket sales. It's partnering with My Athens to throw a three-course benefit catered by The National, with beers from Wild Heaven, this Saturday, Feb. 25, at 6:15 p.m. in the CinéLab.
Tickets are $70 in advance online and $80 at the door, and get you a family-style meal of bread from Independent Baking Co.; escarole and radicchio with pecorino and dried currants; roasted quail over braised cannellini beans with roasted tomato-salsa verde; poached asparagus with deviled egg dressing and baby shrimp; Carolina Gold rice salad with octopus, chickpeas and smoked paprika vinaigrette; beets with pomegranate dressing, almonds, mint and feta; punched sweet potatoes with tahini dressing, benne, red onion curtido and cilantro; and a dessert of Portuguese custard tarts and Condor Chocolates.
There's also an Oscar-type red carpet entrance, fancy decor to fit the occasion and an Oscar ballot to fill out with the opportunity to win prizes once the actual awards have been handed out on Sunday.
