Butch Trucks (and drums)

If you're just back in town and looking for a way to properly ring in the New Year on this fifth day of January, you could do a lot worse than The Foundry, where Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks will perform with his newly formed Freight Train Band. 

The group, which plays faithful renditions and creative reworkings of Allmans hits as well as other blues-rock standards and originals, features Trucks on drums as well as guitarist Damon Fowler, vocalist Heather Gillis and a cadre of capable session players.

Though it's still pretty sleepy on the live-music front, there are a few other notable shows happening this weekend, provided we aren't hit with another snowpocalypse:

• Friday at Hendershot's, local musician Shauna Greeson returns from a six-year hiatus to play as Shauna and the Jaywalkers.
• Saturday at Flicker, Caleb Keith says goodbye to Athens with a farewell show.
• Also Saturday, at the Globe, JazzAthensGA presents a re-imagining of jazz drummer Elvin Jones' classic work, featuring bassist and bandleader Michael Feinberg and Jones protege Ian Froman, as well as saxophonist Noah Preminger.
