The deadline to apply for a spot on the annual AthFest compilation is fast approaching. If you want that totally brilliant, universe-altering, hands-down no-question GOAT tune you've been sitting on for months to appear on the album, you'd better submit it here by Sunday, Mar. 16.
The submission process is open to Athens-based bands only, and previously unreleased material is preferred. More details on the submission page.
This year, the compilation will forgo the familiar CD format in favor of a first-ever vinyl release (via longtime AthFest partner Ghostmeat), which is terrific news, because CDs are awful, flimsy, characterless things and deserve to die. Of course, the comp will also be available digitally.
In related news, AthFest Educates, the festival's parent organization, continues to do good work with its music education efforts. The nonprofit recently announced that it awarded over $10,000 in music and arts grants for eight Clarke County School District schools, which went towards purchasing instruments, supporting performances and establishing scholarships. In addition, AthFest Educates purchased $5,000 in instruments for Clarke Middle School.
