Former Star Room Boys frontman (and former Flagpole City Editor) Dave Marr is hard at work on a new studio album, which will feature his first official new recordings in a decade and a half.

Marr has been been laying down tracks at The Glow Recording Studio with engineer Jesse Mangum, and now he's put together a video with the help of Atlanta filmmaker Jim Issa. The clip features a rough version of "Thank You," a deep, aching tune from the new record.

Check out Marr and his band—Thayer Sarrano, Don Chambers, Bo Bedingfield, Alan Flurry, Brandon Reynolds and, in a special guest appearance, Circulatory System's John Fernandes—playing "Thank You" below:

Says Marr:

We've got five songs down so far; we'll go back into the GLOW next weekend and probably once more after that. I'm hoping to have the album done this summer…

["Thank You" is] about the British filmmaker Terrence Davies… or for him, I guess. It's definitely one of the heavier things I've done, which is fun. The whole band really got all over it, and I love having John in there, especially his super-ominous bass clarinet at the end. I've really enjoyed stretching out with this band and these new songs. This record is going off into a bunch of different directions, and I'm excited to hear what it's going to sound like when it's all put together.

Marr plays New West/Normaltown Records' Slingshot Festival showcase at the Caledonia Lounge on Saturday, Mar. 28.
