Don't Be a Dummy! This Weekend's Shows to See

FRIDAY, JANUARY 18

Drive-By Truckers, Grass Giraffes @ 40 Watt Club: The hometown alt-country heroes are on night two of their three-night residency, which benefits Nuci's Space.

Diarrhea Planet, PUJOL, Frankenstrangler @ Caledonia Lounge: A couple of hot-rock scrappers from Nashville headline this show. District Attorneys side project opens.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19

Drive-By Truckers, Velocirapture, Camp Amped Band @ 40 Watt Club: Night three of DBT mania. Perhaps the most fascinating thing about this show is the opener, Velocirapture, whose wild, sloppy Velvets-aping rock should turn some DBT fans' heads.

Manray, Irreversible, Lazer/Wulf, Set and Setting @ Caledonia Lounge: Lazer/Wulf's Bryan Aiken recently lost a whole shitload of gear. Go buy some stuff from him.

The Dreebs, Guerilla Toss, Shade, Bubbly Mommy Gun, Sad Dads @ Farm 255: No-wave and post-punk are the names of the game at this gig, with a couple of righteous outta-town bands highlighting a noisy, chaotic psych night.

Helen Scott, AJ Griffin, The Good Graces, JPhono1 @ Flicker Theatre & Bar: As JPhono1, North Carolina's John Harrison approaches psychedelia with a Southerner's heart.

The Darnell Boys, Glasscrafts, Matt Hudgins @ Green Room: Check out the release of the Darnell Boys' new video, and get a loud load of fuzz-love from Grass Giraffes side project Glasscrafts.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 20

Stay in and watch the NFC Championship game. Duh.
