FRIDAY
Toxie, The Rodney Kings, CCBB, Timmy Tumble @ Farm 255: Memphians Toxie are part of the garage-heavy Goner cult, and put on a hell of a live show. Plus, three wild local acts. Can't miss it!
Loudon Wainwright III, Martha: Legendary songwriter Wainwright is bound to have some new songs up his sleeve, but the best part will be hearing him play warm, mildly heartbreaking classics like "Motel Blues" (above).
Drive-By Truckers, Jay Gonzalez & the Guilty Pleasures: Get down to GATH for the second and final night of these dudes' yearly stand. There are no promises of any more Athens shows anytime soon, so, y'know, get on it.
SATURDAY
Packway Handle Band, The Corduroy Road, Cicada Rhythm: All three of these groups are fun stuff, but it's Cicada Rhythm who really gets Flagpole going; the group's smokey SoGo (Southern Gothic—cool, right? RIGHT?) sound is irresistibly real.
SUNDAY
Once in a Blue Moon feat. The Kenney-Blackmon String Band, Revien, Kyshona Armstrong, Brock Scheidl and Chris Shupe: WUGA's 25th anniversary celebration! Check out the show in person, or listen on the radio like an old-timey person.
Kate Morrissey, Mercies: Local singer-songwriter celebrates the release of her new album Love Songs for Twins.
Camp Amped Instructors Showcase: With performances from Claire Campbell; Nanny Island; Thayer Sarrano, Seth Hendershot and Jojo Glidewell; Peter Alvanos; and National Anthem, this show, featuring the kid-focused Camp Amped's tireless instructors, should make for a nice Sunday evening comedown.
