Don't Be a Dummy! This Weekend's Shows to See

Holy moly! Silver Apples, The Queers, A-Trak, Killer Mike, Melvins Lite and more!

FRIDAY, OCT. 12

Athens Intensified Night 2 w/ Silver Apples, Amphibian Lark, Entertainment, Quiet Evenings, I Come to Shanghai, Brothers @ Caledonia Lounge: It would be amazing enough having legendary proto-electronic psych act Silver Apples in town, but pair Simeon with some of our coolest local talent and you've got a real barnburner on your hands.

Nuci's Space 12th Anniversary Party w/ Matt Hudgins, Scott and Pam Baxendale, Michael Fray, Emily Hansford: Help the invaluable local nonprofit celebrate 12 years of existence with live sets from these local songwriters. Free refreshments will be served, and a silent auction featuring some seriously cool stuff will be held.

James McMurty, Joe Pug @ Melting Point: Two exceedingly talented songwriters—tried-and-true Texan McMurtry and critically lauded upstart Pug—perform on one stage.

Brothers, Montgomery White @ Farm 255: If you haven't seen Matt Kurz's soul-singing, foot-tapping one-man-band thing yet, you're totally missing out. You're also totally weird, because he's been doing it for a while. You should probably remedy that, quick.

SATURDAY, OCT. 13

Los Meesfits, Grape Soda @ Ted's Most Best: Wish Grape Soda well as they set off on a weeklong tour to CMJ in NYC and back.

Athens Intensified Night 3 w/ The Queers, Burns Like Fire, Grim Pickens & the Bastard Congregation, Karbomb, She Wolf and Muuy Biien @ Caledonia Lounge: Athens Intensified wraps up its inaugural iteration with performances from archetypal punk act The Queers and some of Athens' finest loud-n-fast bands.

Melvins Lite, Tweak Bird @ 40 Watt Club: Sludge-rock gods The Melvins attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest U.S. tour, hitting all 50 states in 51 days.

GZA, Killer Mike, Bear Hands @ Georgia Theatre: Do yourself a favor: See Killer Mike live. It's a scene, man. Plus, GZA performs Liquid Swords in its entirety. (He'll probably be really, really high.)

WUOG 40th Anniversary Party w/ k i d s, Bubbly Mommy Gun, National Anthem @ New Earth Music Hall: If you wrote them off as ineffectual jokesters before, take a second look: Bubbly Mommy Gun's new album Sand Roses is a major leap forward for the local free-pop outfit.

A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Donnis @ Farm 255: Yes, this is really happening. Yes, it'll be cray. That is all you need to know.
