Guitarist and songwriter Adam Klein is an Athens roots-music trailblazer, as evidenced by his seven-album discography, which started with 2006's Distant Music and continues with Low Flyin' Planes, a new LP out Mar. 1 on Klein's label, Cowboy Angel Music.
Klein is also an actor, having appeared in projects like Amazon's Zelda Fitzgerald bio-series "Z: The Beginning of Everything," and he brings a distinct narrative flair to his lived-in Americana, crafting richly detailed songs that reflect the songwriter's prolific background. Today, we're pleased to premiere one of those tunes, the steady, inviting "Dog Days."
Says Klein:
Although this is the eighth track on Low Flyin’ Planes, sitting right in the middle of side B, it was a strong contender, in my mind, to open the album. I think it’s a solid sonic representation of the sound and feel of the record. Thematically, it also gets to the heart of some of the main, recurring themes of these songs. There’s a sense of yearning- a longing for a return and a feeling of being simultaneously anchored and adrift…
As far as the Athens connections on this song and the record as a whole, the beautiful guitar work is compliments of Crash Cason, certainly one of Athens’ greatest unsung guitarists. And producer and engineer Bronson Tew, formerly of Athens, is at the helm working his magic on these tunes.

Klein plays a release show at Hendershot's Coffee Bar on Friday, Mar. 1.
