Join us in welcoming Art Contest to Athens.
The duo, which recently relocated to the Classic City from just up the road in Greenville, SC, specializes in twitchy, explosive math-pop, of which we haven't seen much around these parts since the mid-aughts.
But Art Contest's post-everything sound is no throwback; it's definitely more futuristic than nostalgic. For hard proof, check out "Tokyo Megaplex," a jittery jam from the group's upcoming full-length, Two Songs, out next year via Post-Echo:
Says Art Contest's Garrett Burke:
Musically, we're always finding ourselves at the intersection of control and mayhem. With "Tokyo Megaplex," Cole [Monroe] and I maximize our sound output, as we push and pull at the idea of being lost in a riot—however, we never planned on ending up there.
