Local rock band Big Morgan formed a few years back and quickly became a favorite of the house-party set, thanks to its manic energy and appealingly goofy songwriting. Though the band's members are arguably better known for their other projects—Juan de Fuca, Trip Lacy and Mad Ace among them—Big Morgan remains an outlet for their more primal rock and roll desires.

Today, we're psyched to premiere a new Big Morgan tune, "Crater." It's from the band's upcoming debut LP, Superpunch!, out later this summer. Stream it below:

The band explains the track:

Created in an episode of frustration by Big Morgan co-frontman Jack Webster, “Crater” expresses the obstacles a musician must face when dealing with gear failure. Upon spilling a sports drink into the mainframe of his 50 Watt Crate Vintage Club amp during a cramped practice, Webster was forced to borrow an array of miscellaneous amplifiers for a duration of performances. The title “Crater,” while a play on the amp’s brand name, refers to the deep emptiness one feels when an essential part of your persona is absent. Much of the lyricism dwells in the scolding of one’s self that delays the actual confrontation of the initial problem.

Catch Big Morgan tonight, Friday, June 23, at the 40 Watt Club, where they'll play at 10:15 p.m. as part of AthFest.
