Allow us to introduce our totally awesome new feature. It's called Flagpole Premieres!, and, like it sounds, it involves us premiering new, exclusive material from local artists. We're super excited to showcase some stuff that we're really grooving on in the Flagpole office! (Yes, we have offices. Fancy, I know.)
For the first installment, the lovely folks in Koko Beware have sent over a track from their upcoming album, the self-released Something About the Summer (out August 7). "Stay" is an earworm, a mildly romantic but beautifully blasé tune that encapsulates every facet of these steamy summer months in under three minutes.
Guitarist and vocalist Ashley Beresch explains:
"Stay" was an older song that Ryan and Albert wrote before I joined the band. Ryan and I were looking through his older material and I really fell in love with it. The doo wop, teenager-in-love/lust feel of the song really attracted me. Ryan and I began to work on it together and then we brought it back before the band to polish it up. It's all about doing something for fun, ya know, just for the night... but you always want to try and make something more out of a crush. The lyrics are really naive, which sort of captures the whole experience of a one-night stand. The morning after can be pretty awkward, especially if you think you might like the guy!
