Local act Kwazymoto is one of the most musically and conceptually ambitious bands in town, as proven by last year's Limerence Land, a five-song stunner that found the group pushing the boundaries of punk. Now, Kwazymoto is set to return with a follow-up, My American Family, which it plans to drop Sept. 28, with an album-release show to follow Oct. 6 at the Caledonia Lounge.
Today, we're happy to give you a first taste of the record by way of the cover art (above) and typically imaginative lead single, "Hipster Scum," a manic, bloodthirsty tune that finds frontman Ian Hemerlein casting out demons in real time. It's a real trip, as is its accompanying video, which you can stream below.
Says Hemerlein:
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Zeke Sayer at Gypsy Farm Studio. We have also returned back to our original two-piece lineup for this album, which is Ian Hemerlein on guitar and vocals and Kody Blackmon on drums. My sister, Lauren Hemerlein, also performs harp on some of the tracks. I directed the video, which is our first to feature lyrics visually, so I would encourage reading them.
