Flagpole Premieres! The New Sound of Numbers: 'New Dance' Video

Local psych-wave crew The New Sound of Numbers is still riding the crest of dance-punk-y joy set in motion with its 2013 album Invisible Magnetic, out on Cloud. Today, we're happy to premiere the music video for one of the record's standout tracks, the effervescent "New Dance."

Says lead singer and songwriter Hannah Jones:

The video was filmed by Ted Kuhn at my house (the band playing), the new Jittery Joe's roaster (the assembling of painted boxes), the Greenway (the jogger) and the Lowe's garden center. Ted had the idea of having a jogger (Josh Skinner, who played with TNSON several years ago) who is somehow receiving a transmission of the song while we play it. While he jogs, the painted boxes surreally keep appearing, until he is knocked out by one and wakes up in the garden center, adding to the strangeness of the situation. The assembling and re-assembling of the painted boxes is symbolic of arranging and re-arranging various things such as ideas, outmoded ways of thinking, societal issues, etc.

Makes total sense to me.

The New Sound of Numbers plays the Caledonia Lounge on Thursday, June 26.
