Voting is over for the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Awards, and the finalists will be revealed June 15. In the meantime, here's the straight dope on who will perform at this year's awards show, which takes place Thursday, June 23 at the Morton Theatre.
Fresh off a worldwide tour in support of the critically acclaimed When You Walk a Long Distance You Are Tired, in-demand indie rockers Mothers will perform. Check out our cover story on Mothers from March.
We're pleased as punch to announce that the Pylon Reenactment Society, an all-star act that pays tribute to the music of legendary Athens band Pylon—and is led by that group's frontwoman, Vanessa Briscoe Hay—will also play. Here's our feature from February.
Also performing at the awards show are high-octane electropop duo Yip Deceiver, captivating vocal group Athens Cowboy Choir and world-music standout Athens Tango Project, who will be joined by a group of dancers from DanceFX.
That's not all! The show will be hosted by local comedians Jake Brannon and Shaunak Godkhindi, hosts of The Good Stuff comedy showcase.
Special guests and surprise appearances await. Tickets for the show are only $5 with an AthFest wristband. Otherwise, they're $8 in advance (from the Morton box office) and $10 at the door.
See you there, Athens!
