Jason Aldean to Play Sanford Stadium next April

The country singer/Georgia boy will be the first musician to perform in the football "cathedral"

Last night country singer (and Macon native) Jason Aldean made a "surprise" appearance at a UGA "Tailgate with the Team" pep rally on Legion Field to play a few tunes and make one big announcement: On April 13, 2013, Aldean will perform at Sanford Stadium alongside notables Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett and Jake Owen.

The Athens show will be one of three stadium gigs Aldean has booked for next year—the other two are at Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston. So, that's pretty neat. I would post a photo from last night's show except, weirdly, the media "platform" was literally ALL THE WAY IN THE BACK, as far away from the stage as one could get while still technically being on the Field, rendering photographic documentation as hopeless as Georgia's chances against Bama in the SEC title game, should they make it that far.

Seriously, we media folks were penned in like sad little press piggies, craning our necks and straining our eyes just to see what was going on. (Is that Aaron Murray? No, wait, that's a cheerleader. No, oh, OK, it's Hairy Dawg.) And the worst part was that we didn't even get any of the free pizza that was being handed out willy-nilly to all the students in attendance. Last time I go to one of those things.

Anyway, here's a Jason Aldean video:

10/26/12 EDIT: Tickets for the Sanford Stadium show go on sale next Friday, Nov. 2. The Fenway show just sold out in seven minutes, so, uh. Yeah.
