Last month, we wrote about the ongoing efforts of Nuçi’s Space to save the dilapidated St. Mary's steeple, which sits next door to the Oconee Street music resource center.

Though the "Reconstruction of the Steeple" Indiegogo campaign—which seeks money to restore the steeple and to fund the Space's programs for the coming year—raised a whopping $50,000 in its first day, the rate of donations has since slowed dramatically.

As of this writing, the campaign has yet to reach the $100,000 mark (the total amount sought is $250,000). With 13 days left, it faces a relatively severe uphill climb.

In an effort to further shore up enthusiasm for the project, on Tuesday, Dec. 2 (that's tomorrow), Nuçi’s Space will participate in Giving Tuesday, "a global day dedicated to giving back," by hosting a free concert at the 40 Watt featuring a handful of prominent local musicians covering the music of other Athens artists.

On the bill are T. Hardy Morris, Don Chambers, Five Eight, Danny Hutchens, Betsy Franck, Peter Alvanos, Jef Whatley, Norma Rae and several others.

In addition to enjoying the music, attendees will have the chance to purchase bricks removed from the iconic steeple—the site of R.E.M.'s first-ever show in 1980—for $100 apiece. In addition, donors will receive name recognition on a new wall to be built at the site of the steeple.

Says project manager Marc Tissenbaum: "Each brick comes with a paper certificate of authenticity and also has a small plaque affixed to it marking it as an authentic steeple brick."
