Yesterday, we reported on the tracklist for this year's AthFest compilation album. Now, AthFest has released the names of the artists who will headline the free outdoor Pulaski Street stage June 26–28.
On Friday, June 26, the festival will feature a double headliner, with popular local indie rockers New Madrid and former Athenians The Whigs playing back-to-back sets.
The next night, Saturday, June 27, Athens glam-pop institution of Montreal, who recently kicked off a tour in support of a new album, Aureate Gloom, will headline AthFest for the first time in the band's history.
And on Sunday, June 28, baseball-themed Pacific Northwest supergroup The Baseball Project, which features members of R.E.M., The Minus Five and The Dream Syndicate, will close out the fest.
More outdoor performers are yet to be announced, as is the lineup for AthFest's annual Club Crawl, which takes place in various downtown venues over the course of Friday and Saturday nights. Club Crawl wristband info will be available soon via the AthFest site.
From the press release:
Troy Aubrey, Booking Chair for AthFest said, "This year's line-up of outdoor headliners is stellar, with three iconic Athens bands rocking the stage Friday and Saturday nights, and then an exciting project with an Athens connection, featuring legendary musicians Mike Mills, Steve Wynn and Scott McCaughey on deck Sunday night to drive the festival home. These great shows are just the tip of the iceberg of what is going to be an awesome AthFest all around. We can’t wait to announce more acts soon!”
AthFest is a component of AthFest Educates, a local nonprofit that "advances high-quality music and arts education for local youth and the Athens community through direct support of school and community-based programs and events."
