Record Store Day is Nigh

Aside from being a high holy day (get it?) for a certain segment of the population, tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 20, is also Record Store Day, the day when music geeks line up around the block for a chance to buy ultra-limited releases from their favorite bands.

A list of all the special releases planned for tomorrow can be found on the official RSD website—but not all of them will be available everywhere. Here in town, we've got several places to partake in the madness. There's Secret Sounds, the new-ish spot below Jittery Joe's on Broad Street. Over on Washington Street, Low Yo Yo Stuff promises "lots of surprise new arrivals and dollar 45s."

Meanwhile, at Wuxtry, that local bastion of record-shoppin' excellence, the staff sent over a list of releases it has ready to unleash on the unwashed hordes (yes, that's you), including RSD specials from Phosphorescent, A Place to Bury Strangers, Built to Spill, Braid, Fela Kuti, Titus Andronicus, Tame Impala, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Flaming Lips, Big Star, Calexico, The xx and many more. Plus, in advance of the Green reissue, local upstarts R.E.M. will release the Live in Greensboro EP, featuring a live performance from way back in 1989.

The store will also be selling the newest entry in its Record Store Day compilation series, which features tracks from a bunch of awesome local bands, including k i d s, Monsoon, Casper and the Cookies and Easter Island. Cap off the day with a show at Caledonia Lounge featuring most of the bands on the comp.

Happy Record Store Day! And God bless us, everyone!
