With the Athens community (in Athens and beyond) still reeling over the tragic loss of one of its most friendly and talented musical souls, it seems maybe the only appropriate thing to do right now is to put on some records and jam.
Above, the dense, Doss-penned "The Sylvan Screen," from The Olivia Tremor Control's underrated 1999 album Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One. But don't stop there. Spin has a pretty awesome story up titled "Bill Doss of Olivia Tremor Control, RIP: Hear His Legacy in 15 Tracks," where they run through some of the best Doss-driven and inspired tunes out there.
EDIT: Pitchfork's Matt LeMay also has a pretty comprehensive tribute.
We're in the process of putting together a modest tribute that we'll run in next week's paper. If you have anecdotes about Bill's life and/or music that you'd like to share, please send them to [email protected] by tomorrow morning.
