There are plenty of options for live music goodness to help you get over the proverbial hump this week. Below, three of our picks:
At Flicker, former Athenian Cara Satalino's Outer Spaces project returns to town, some months after Satalino packed up and moved to Baltimore. Those unfamiliar would do well to check out Outer Spaces' brand of melodic melancholy.
At Little Kings, enjoy sets from resurrected and prolific local goofball-rockers Sad Dads and Charlottesville, VA-based portmanteau-loving shit-kickers Dwight Howard Johnson, along with local sound artist Michael Pierce, who crafts often-vicious, noise-laden electro-trash as Nether Powers.
For something more civilized, head to the Morton, where UGA's Willson Center, the Institute for African American Studies and the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will present "A Night at the Morton: Celebrating Black Traditions in Athens Musical Culture." As the title suggests, the event, which features performances from the Athens Voices of Truth community choir, the UGA African American Choral Ensemble and many more, will honor the rich and under-represented history of black music in Athens.
