Below, watch the trailer for Gideon's Army, an HBO documentary directed by filmmaker Dawn Porter. The film follows the stories of three Southern public defenders striving to make a difference against intimidating odds. The film's title is a reference to the 1963 Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, which ensured legal representation for indigent clients.
Among the film's subjects is Trav Williams, a UGA Law School graduate and former mainstay on the Athens hip hop scene who now practices law in Hall County. Williams has also recently returned to the music world after a four-year hiatus, releasing a fantastic new mixtape, P.O.E. (it stands for "Preponderance of Evidence").
The tape, which samples heavily from Jay-Z's 1996 classic Reasonable Doubt (get it?) finds Williams exploring the strange intersection of his two worlds. Stream the album below, and catch Gideon's Army on HBO next Monday, July 1 at 9 p.m..
