Drunk Athens residents have another transportation alternative with ride-sharing service Lyft now operating here.
New passengers can use the code “LYFTINTAC” after a long night of binge drinking downtown to receive $5 their first ride anywhere within the Athens area, which spans from Ben Epps Airport south to Watkinsville and west to Atlanta.
Lyft’s main competitor, Uber, has been ferrying drunk people home operating in Athens since 2014.
Which should you use? In general, Uber is slightly cheaper and more popular, which means it can be easier to find a ride. But unlike Uber, Lyft personally meets with drivers, inspects vehicles and allows tipping through its app, so it may be the better choice if you’re worried about safety or care about things like living wages.
