The University of Georgia will open at noon today, UGA officials said this morning, after initially announcing that the university would open at 10 a.m.

Buses will begin running at 11 a.m. Classes will start at 12:30 a.m.

"Safety should remain a priority," said Vice President for Public Affairs Tom Jackson. "Individuals concerned about road conditions for commuting purposes should work with supervisors and/or instructors to make alternative arrangements."

Athens Tech and the University of North Georgia are closed. Classes at Piedmont College will start at noon.

The Clarke County School District, originally set to open two hours late, will be closed today. Twelve-month employees are expected to report at 10 a.m.

Oconee County schools remain delayed two hours.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Clarke County late Monday. Roadways froze overnight, making traffic conditions treacherous until noon today. In addition, branches have fallen and power went out in some areas due to ice accumulation.
