Give You the Ghost

This first Gayngs spin-off is anchored by the Minneapolis dance syndicate's founder-producer Ryan Olson and singer Channy Leaneagh (formerly Casselle). Arty and tastefully left-field, their electro-soul-pop is an exquisite exercise in expression and atmosphere. Issuing forth in slinky, dazzling ripples, these futuristic jams have zero-gravity ease but are framed by highly punctuated dynamics. What's more, they pack a surprisingly wide emotional spectrum. Of all the elements, particularly arresting are Leaneagh's vocals - regal, velvet and mesmerizingly processed to sound like the young android sister of Tracey Thorn (Everything But the Girl). This dope treatment will seriously change the way you think of Auto-Tune. And the culmination is stately but adventurous at the same time, and all of it as fluid as quicksilver.

Notable cuts include "I See My Mother," "Form" and "Wandering Star" (feat. Bon Iver's Mike Noyce). But the stars are the crystalline daybreak of "Amongster," the stalking tension of "Violent Games" and the foxy space-age soul of "Fist Teeth Money." All told, this record is just stylish as fuck. But much more than that, it's an extraordinary work of thrillingly forward-thinking pop.
