Voting is over for the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Awards, and the finalists will be revealed June 15. In the meantime, here's the straight dope on who will perform at this year's awards show, which takes place Thursday, June 23 at the Morton Theatre.

At a meeting of the UGA athletic board of directors Thursday, Athletic Director Greg McGarity apologized for "mistakes we made with certain aspects of the details of an entertainment agreement," the Banner-Herald reports.

Last November, Athens/Atlanta band Pinecones, a fast Flagpole favorite, announced it was changing its name to Arbor Labor Union and signing with indie juggernaut Sub Pop, which released the group's new album, I Hear You, May 13.
The band recently revealed a music video for the record's eight-minute centerpiece, the muscular, meandering "Volume Peaks." The clip was filmed at Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach and a Ruth Street house and features lighting by local psychedelic-projection collective Eye Gate.

Athens musician JJ Posway fronts the emo-tinged indie-pop outfit scooterbabe and creates dark, textural instrumental music as Aprotag. Now Posway has a third project, the electronic-minded Orca Mug, and today we're happy to premiere the title track from Orca Mug's upcoming EP, Yeah, The Void.

Adrian Zelski, the frontman for popular Athens reggae outfit DubConscious, has been arrested and charged with felony drug trafficking and felony conspiracy after authorities discovered "approximately 18.5 pounds of suspected marijuana" during a search, according to an Asheboro, NC Courier-Tribune report.

It's festival season, and two of the biggest and baddest fests of the year take place in our own backyard: The rock-centric Shaky Knees Festival will take over Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park next weekend, May 13–15, with the EDM and hip hop-oriented Shaky Beats Festival to follow May 20–22.

As Flagpole's Gordon Lamb reported last month, the Athens PopFest will make a triumphant return in August after nearly five years away. Last week, organizers announced some of the bands that will play the four-day event. The list includes some national heavy-hitters as well as a bunch of local standouts.
Athens-based indie hip hop artist Marshall Moore retired his Hairy Confucius moniker last December, but fret not: Moore is back as The Quiet Pack, and today we're happy to premiere the project's first single, the jazzy, understated "Meet Me On the Astral Plane."

Local post-punk legends Pylon have teamed up with Chunklet founder Henry Owings to issue a vinyl pressing of a live performance from 1983 at Athens' Mad Hatter club, as Pylon frontwoman Vanessa Briscoe Hay told Flagpole back in January.
