McGarity: Sorry About the Ludacris Thing

At a meeting of the UGA athletic board of directors Thursday, Athletic Director Greg McGarity apologized for "mistakes we made with certain aspects of the details of an entertainment agreement," the Banner-Herald reports.

He didn't mention it specifically, but McGarity was definitely referring to Ludacris' 13-minute performance at the Apr. 16 G-Day game, for which the athletic department paid the rapper a whopping $65,000.

In addition, Luda's lengthy hospitality rider included items that ranged from the curious to the mildly controversial, including Trojan condoms, bottles of vodka, tequila and cognac and women's deodorant.

"Few things in my professional life have bothered me more than this situation," the ABH quotes McGarity as saying. "There are no reruns in life, so we need to turn the page, learn from our mistakes and do everything we can to make sure errors of this nature do not reoccur."

UGA President Jere Morehead also weighed in, saying, "Obviously in retrospect they should have done a more thorough job of reviewing all of the riders and removing those that were objectionable. I appreciate that [McGarity has] accepted that that’s what athletics should have done and what it will do moving forward."
