Classic City Rollergirls Triumph Over Appalachian Roller Derby on St. Pat's Day

It happened to be St. Patrick’s Day, but the Classic City Rollergirls always wear green and black. They didn’t mess with that formula during the 2018 season opener Saturday night at Athens Arena, and, dressed for success, they massacred the visiting Boone, NC-based Appalachian Roller Derby, 197-139.

This year's Big Read is based around To Live by Yu Hua and the work of the young-adult novelist Grace Lin.

Atlanta Film Critics Circle Announces Top 10 and Awards

The Atlanta Film Critics Circle, of which I am a founding member, released its first-ever top 10 list and awards in early December. I'm proud that six of my top 10 films made the list, and I have yet to see two of the other four, so they still could make a revised list.

Sure, there were a few hiccups—one of George Bugg's classic cars stalled out with Mayor Nancy Denson riding shotgun; a runaway camel that wasn't really feeling being dressed like a dinosaur—but in the end, a good time was had by all.
