As multiple news outlets are reporting, at least three people were killed in a car accident early this morning just north of Athens in Jackson County, near the Tanger Outlets in Commerce.
Shortly before dawn, a van carrying members of two heavy metal bands—Huntsville, AL's Wormreich and Atlanta-based Khaotika—veered off I-85 and struck a tree, ejecting three passengers and sending eight others to area hospitals, including Athens Regional Medical Center, according to the AJC.
Wormreich posted the photo seen above to Facebook on Apr. 3, with the caption, "Khaotika and Wormreich on the road for Reich ov Khaos. Chicago bound."
From the AJC report:
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Scott Smith said the driver of the 15-passenger van “apparently fell asleep and allowed the vehicle to leave the roadway, at which time the vehicle struck a tree on the passenger side.”
The bands were scheduled to play East Atlanta venue The Graveyard Monday night. The names of the deceased passengers have not been released. An investigation into the crash is pending.
