Kids Like You and Me, a new documentary that follows Atlanta punks the Black Lips on a recent Middle East tour, will have its Georgia premiere at Atlanta's Plaza Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 27. Watch the trailer below:
Director Bill Cody, who was also a producer of the seminal Athens, GA: Inside/Out documentary (known as the film responsible for our own Ort having an IMDB profile), says the film will showcase that, despite popular portrayal, modern Western and Middle East cultures aren't all that different.
Cody says:
As far as filming, it went great. The Black Lips guys were hard workers and our production/tour manager Nadim Jamal was amazing. Most of the difficulties came prior to filming and the tour. For example, we lost a promoter because they were Palestinian and the guys had played Israel. Then, we lost a big show in Iraq because the government was sponsoring it and someone saw their video for "Family Tree." I got a great email on that one. But we ended up playing a teen center in Iraq right after a sold-out show with 800 people in Dubai, and the guys had more fun at that show than any of the others.
The Atlanta Film Festival-presented screening is $10 (or $8 for ATLFF members) and starts at 7:30 p.m.
