Echo Starts Live Music This Weekend

On Tuesday, Echo, the vegan restaurant that took over the Washington Street space recently vacated by Farm 255, opened for business. Among the questions surrounding the transition was whether the new restaurant would continue Farm's tradition of hosting late-night live music and, more specifically, whether the new owners would keep Mercer West, who has been responsible for assembling some of the most interesting bills in Athens over the past near-decade, on as talent buyer.

Those questions have now been answered, as the restaurant has announced that live music will start this weekend with a pair of West-curated shows. Tonight, The Dream Scene and Look (a new Reptar side project) will perform, and Saturday, Androcles and the Lion and Cult of Riggonia will do their part to usher in the new space.

Only a few other shows have been announced. Next Thursday, Sept. 12, Brooklyn pop crew Air Waves will swing through town. The following night, Kite to the Moon will perform, before a "special late night show." On Oct. 9, Montreal's Calvin Love will perform, and on Oct. 13, musician and video artist Alexis Gideon will return to Athens.

As was the case with Farm, most Echo shows will start on the late side (11 p.m. or later) and be free of charge. West encourages bands looking to play the venue to contact booking@echoathens.com.
