Record Store Day Is Saturday—Here's What to Know

rsdlogo2017.jpeg

It's the most wonderful time of the year—or the reason it's impossible to get a goddamn record pressed these days, depending whom you ask. That's right: Record Store Day is back!

The event, which turns 10 this year, returns tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 22 (and yes, there are approximately 1 million other events happening Saturday). Stores in Athens and across the country will offer crates on crates of RSD exclusives, including lavish reissue packages and limited-edition new releases.

Athens' two downtown shops, Wuxtry Records and Low Yo Yo Stuff, will open at 8 a.m., with Wuxtry providing free coffee and donuts from Zombie Coffee and Donuts for the early birds while they last.

"There will also be a few crates of markdown/clearance LPs from the more recent 2000s era, plus an assortment of dollar CDs and cassettes, as well as over a dozen boxes of all the RSD 2017 exclusives we ordered for this year's event," says a Wuxtry rep via Facebook.

Low Yo Yo Stuff manager Michael Gerard says his store "went totally nuts this year and ordered every single thing we could! We'll have tons and tons of RSD exclusive titles for sale, along with lots of other killer deals—a thousand LPs priced at $1 and super cheap CDs."

And don't forget about Secret Sounds, which will be partying Saturday at its new location inside the Hip Vintage & Handmade market on Commerce Boulevard. In addition to "a small smattering of RSD exclusives," the store will offer its usual selection of used and new LPs, including some Athens-specific gems, like rare copies of The Glands' self-titled 2000 album, per a recent Facebook post.

Check out the full list of official RSD 2017 releases here—but be aware that our local shops won't necessarily be carrying everything you see on your screen. Happy hunting!
