R.E.M.'s Mike Mills Talks David Letterman

R.E.M. and David Letterman go way back. The Athens legends made their national television debut on Letterman’s former NBC show in 1983. And when Letterman announced to his studio audience last April, musical guest Mike Mills broke the news on Twitter.
Mills recently gave an interview about Letterman to Salon.com editor David Daley, a former Athens resident. He talked about that tweet, the time Dan Rather (whose mugging inspired "What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?”) sat in with the band, as well as that first appearance, when the up-and-comers followed up single “Radio Free Europe” with an untitled song that would become “So. Central Rain.”

World Tea Society Event Blends Fashion, Food and Friendship

Dressing up is an important part of the World Tea Society's gatherings.
Pulling up to the location for the World Tea Society’s social gathering on Saturday was a real Jane Austen moment. Specifically, the one where Jennifer Ehle, playing Elizabeth Bennett in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, sucks in her breath when confronted with the splendor of Colin Firth’s—I mean Mr. Darcy’s—palatial home. The setting for the first public tea held by this recently created society was designed to impress: a very large house in an elite Athens neighborhood, complete with a large lake and picture perfect geese wandering the grounds.

Where Are Georgia Players Going in the NFL Draft?
It’s cold consolation to Georgia fans who hoped for a Heisman trophy and at least an SEC championship out of Todd Gurley’s time in Athens, but he’s about to be a very rich man. As sure as a Florida Gator has a closet full of jean shorts, Gurley will be a first-round NFL draft pick on Thursday.

The tour started at the historic T.R.R. Cobb House. With its neatly trimmed boxwood hedges, tidy red brick garden paths, and genteel iron garden furniture with a rusty veneer whispering of tradition, it was an elegant beginning to the Boulevard Gardening Club’s Roving Garden Party. But this wasn’t your average garden tour.

Athens Fashion Collective and GMOA Create Stylish Tribute to Piero Lerda

Heather Leigh and Von Ditthavong networked with other young creatives at Museum Mix.
Athens Fashion Collective presented “Fashion Inspired by the Art of Piero Lerda” at this entertaining evening the museum puts on three times a year. Eight local designers showcased an original fashion piece created in response to the work of the dynamic Italian painter Lerda, whose abstract and colorful mixed media works are currently on display at the Georgia Museum of Art.
