"It's Friday," the charmingly democratic WUGA-FM radio series that features live musicians performing in-studio each week, will air its final episode tomorrow, Friday, June 26. Host and producer Robb Holmes, who has worked at WUGA since 1987, will retire following the series finale.
Athens musician Phelan LaVelle is one busy bee. In addition to fronting Shade, the excellent local groove-punk outfit that recently finished recording its sophomore album with Chase Park Transduction honcho David Barbe, she sings and plays bass in Crunchy, a similarly spaced-out rock and roll duo. On Saturday, June 27, she will debut Scrunchie, a Crunchy spin-off, as part of Go Bar's AthFest showcase.
In total, LaVelle's three projects will play five shows over the course of this weekend, which makes today a fine occasion to premiere the video for "DUOP," a stonerrific tune from Crunchy's upcoming Spicy World EP.

Athens resident and UGA music business lecturer David Lowery—he of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven fame—is an outspoken critic of the revenue-sharing system that has been established in the era of digital media. So, one would expect Lowery to have much to say about Apple Music, the tech giant's ballyhooed new streaming platform, which it announced yesterday.
