1. Go see Flagpole cover models Futurebirds as they return to town to play the Georgia Theatre Friday.
2. Or, head to the 40 Watt to catch new Athens resident Kishi Bashi.
3. Nuci's Space celebrates its 13th anniversary with a shindig Friday evening.

Three means it's a trend, right?
Granted, the above video has been online for several years; still, it's worth a watch in the wake of those other recent discoveries. Uploaded by YouTube user Chip Woods and titled "Driving Through Athens - 1991," is, for the first couple minutes, exactly what the title suggests.
But then it shifts gears, and there's something about the overwhelming silence, coupled with the bird's eye view of a downtown street, the impossibly '90s parking-deck graffiti (sample: "YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR CHAINS!") and the competing realization that wow, nothing really ever changes—it makes the clip feel more poignant than maybe it ought to.

Director, R.E.M. collaborator and former Athens resident Jim McKay will headline the UGA Willson Center's Spotlight on the Arts festival next month. Tourfilm, McKay's, um, document of R.E.M.'s 1989 Green tour, will be screening at Ciné Nov. 15.
Les Miles and No. 6 LSU come to Athens having won the last two against No. 9 Georgia, including an SEC Championship Game rout in 2011. Pundits are predicting an uncomfortably close game, with the home team a slight favorite.
The big story of the week, of course, is the return of LSU QB Zack Mettenberger to Athens. Mettenberger, a former Dawg, was in a starting quarterback battle with Aaron Murray (and the oft-forgotten Logan Gray) back in spring 2010, before an out-of-town incident at a bar got him kicked off the team. Interestingly enough, Mettenberger's mother is a UGA football employee (though Mark Richt reportedly gave her the week off.)
Both teams look good as far as injuries go. Star running back Todd Gurley should be at 100 percent and ready to put up big numbers against a solid-but-exploitable LSU defense. It's Georgia's third top-10 matchup of the season so far; the Dawgs are 1–1 in those games and looking to improve.

Workers were setting up the ESPN "College GameDay" stage in Myers Quad today for what promises to be an absolutely insane football Saturday against LSU. (Pro tip: Unless you're going tailgating or to the game or to a bar to watch the game, DO NOT, under any circumstances, leave your house tomorrow.)
Gabe Vodicka and I had a chance to talk this morning with ESPN personality Paul Finebaum (whose intelligent and caustic Birmingham Post-Herald columns I grew up reading). Here are his thoughts on Georgia fans, the Dawgs' title chances, Mark Richt, Michael Adams and whether UGA fans should boo Zach Mettenberger.
1. It's the last weekend for you to catch the lo-fi glory that is the Flickskinny museum at Flicker Theatre & Bar.
2. It's College GameDay Saturday! At an on-campus presser earlier today, Paul Finebaum called Georgia fans "cerebral." Drink a lot of beer and prove him wrong. Also, follow along as we live blog the game.

So, here's a fun opportunity coming up. This weekend, the Oconee Youth Playhouse is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Shrek the Musical. Auditions are open to people from kindergarten on up, so this is a particularly nice chance to get younger members of your family some stage time.
