In a move that can best be described as a labor of love, New West Records is planning a truly magnanimous tribute to Athens band The Glands, whose frontman, Ross Shapiro, died in 2016.

One benefit of the early-’80s glut of private-press 45s is the abundance of sports-themed novelty records. Game-day souvenirs hiding in a record bin near you include Roger Hallmark’s “The Bear of Alabama” and Elliott, Walter and Bennett’s Atlanta Falcons-themed take on “The 12 Days of Christmas.”
Minimalist electronic composer Max Richter enchanted a sizable and mainly younger audience Sunday at the UGA Performing Arts Center's Hodgson Hall, where he performed alongside the five-piece American Contemporary Music Ensemble.
Editor's note: On the comedy podcast "R U Talkin' R.E.M. RE: ME?", hosts Scott Aukerman and Adam Scott dive deep into the legendary Athens band's discography. Local superfan Tim Kelly is reviewing the podcast for Flagpole.
