Q&A: The Rock*A*Teens Talk Cabbagetown, a Double Double-Cross and Black Flag

After 18 years, Atlanta's Rock*A*Teens returned this summer with Sixth House. While the group’s sixth album doesn’t throw any surprise punches, songs such as “Billy Really,” “Lady Macbeth” and “Crystal Skies” rise above the signature haze of reverb and distortion layered over singer and guitarist Chris Lopez’s haunting tales of heartache in the Deep South.
Flagpole caught up with the band's Chris Lopez and T. Ballard Lesemann in advance of their show at the 40 Watt Club this Saturday. This interview has been edited for length.

Day One
Those who know many performers on a festival's lineup and have a full schedule planned will easily enjoy themselves, but the challenge is getting those who attend for one band or just the headliners to have a good time and discover new artists they enjoy. This year's Music Midtown was scheduled well in that, even if you chose to camp out near one stage all day, you could see a variety of talented artists with breaks of about an hour and a half in between.

Live Review: The Head and the Heart at Georgia Theatre
Indie-folk collective The Head and the Heart headlined a two-night stand at Georgia Theatre last week, along with opener Savannah Conley. Both shows sold out well ahead of time, so, as expected, the venue was packed on Thursday evening. The crowd was energetic and lively even before the concert began, which would come to be a theme throughout.

Flagpole Premieres: Kwazymoto, 'Hipster Scum' Video
Local act Kwazymoto is one of the most musically and conceptually ambitious bands in town, as proven by last year's Limerence Land, a five-song stunner that found the group pushing the boundaries of punk. Now, Kwazymoto is set to return with a follow-up, My American Family, which it plans to drop Sept. 28, with an album-release show to follow Oct. 6 at the Caledonia Lounge.
