We all woke up pretty late Friday and eventually left Andy and Haley's house to go find ourIndietracks hotel. We weren't sure if we'd need one, so by the time we got around to reserving it we had to get something about half an hour away. But it was pretty cheap. Not that a hotel on tour ever feels "cheap."
The last time we rented a car in the UK, they offered us a sat-nav for a huge extra charge, but there was one built into the car. We kind of banked on the same thing happening this time, and it didn't. We couldn't deal with how much it cost, so we drove to the nearest Currys and bought one for ourselves. We also stopped in Argos, which is kind of like Ikea, except that you select products from Sears-type catalogs, enter them into a computer and then get in line to pay for them. It has been in the 60s during the day so far (unexpected to someone in our party) and at one of the services we saw "summer coats" for sale. That is a thing.
From Oct. 7–10, the fourth annual Athens Intensified festival, the brainchild of Flagpolecolumnist and Athens music aficionado Gordon Lamb, returns to downtown, bringing with it an impressive lineup of local, regional and national talent.
Hey y'all, Eureka California (Marie and Jake) here.
Today, we're heading off to the UK, where we're going to tour for the next couple of weeks and then record our new album. We're also going to do our best to document the interesting parts of our trip for Flagpole.
Last weekend, Flagpole attended the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, IL, which celebrated its 10th anniversary with sets from Wilco, Sleater-Kinney, Future Islands, Jamie xx, Chance the Rapper and many others.

For years, it's generally been considered poor form for a visiting act to cover an R.E.M. hit in the band's hometown, but if anyone could do it with festive authority, it's singer and bandleader Kate Pierson. Standing center stage in front of her own backing band, she closed a lively and intimate set at the Georgia Theatre on Saturday night with a three-song encore that featured a rousing version of "Shiny Happy People."
Good news for fans of defunct local hip hop group Mad Axes: One of that act's founding members, Louie Larceny, is gearing up to release White Love, a 12-track effort recorded, mixed and mastered by Joel Hatstat, this fall.
Earlier this week, Larceny posted the album's moody, menacing first single, "White Money," tohis Bandcamp page. Today, Flagpole is pleased to premiere the song's stylish video.

Today marks the official reissue release of Weirdo, the 1994 classic from Athens-based underdog rockers Five Eight. A spry, 11-track album, Weirdo represents a would-be alt-rock breakthrough that never quite came.
