We didn't learn much from the No. 148 Classic City Rollergirls' recent 226-54 demolition of the visiting No. 137 Tragic City Rollers in the Akins Arena at the Classic Center on Apr. 16. The 007-themed high school prom being held in the facilities atrium provided more tension and drama.

India Book Club Hosts Holocaust-Remembrance Event in Unique Style

The evening was a promising one. A book group was gathering in a lovely backyard garden blooming with flowers on a temperate spring night. Smells of cardamom and curry were sneaking out of foil wrapped casserole dishes. And, upon my arrival, the event’s guest speakers, all of whom are Jewish, were already deep in a heated discussion about interpretation of the 10 commandments.
This latest gathering of the India Book Club took place in the backyard garden of Dr. Ranjit Mathew and Rita Mathew. The group, formerly known as the Friends of India Book Club, has been around for about nine years and reads a diverse selection of titles.

Twilight Criterium Results and Photos
Ryan Aitchison (Astellas Cycling Team), Oscar Clark (Holowesko Citadel Cycling Team) and Bobby Lea (Maloja Pushbikes) lapped the field twice at the Athens Twilight Criterium Saturday night on their way to first-, second- and third-place finishes, respectively.
Daniel Holloway (Giant Racing), who won Twilight the past two years, finished 51st.
For the Athens-based United Healthcare team, Tom Gibbons finished 11th, Frank Travieso 23th, Willem Kaiser 33rd, Andy Scarano 48th, Dylan Cantrell 66th and Emile Abraham 76th. (Fun fact: Kaiser is Athens Mayor Nancy Denson’s grandson.)
Marie-Soleil Blais of Fearless Femme Racing won the women’s criterium, outsprinting Sara Tussey of Visit Dallas DNA Pro Cycling and foiling Tina Pic’s bid for a fourth Twilight win. Pic, the 2014 and 2015 winner, and her Happy Tooth team raced conservatively to preserve her overall Speed Week lead. She finished fifth.

Bulldog Inn 'Annual Bi-annual' Postponed Until Fall

The 2016 Bulldog Inn Annual Bi-annual has been postponed until later this fall. Launched in 2010 as a venue for experimentation and alternative art, the one-night event transforms ordinary bedrooms into multi-faceted installations dreamed up by local artists.
Originally scheduled for Friday, Apr. 22, the event was later moved to Wednesday, May 11 in hopes of accommodating more artists. Due to growing construction in Athens, however, the iconic motel on Commerce Road is currently occupied by long-term residents, making it impossible to reserve enough rooms.
