About three dozen people came out to a public meeting last night to voice their concern over Georgia Power’s plan to raise power rates.
Georgia Power has proposed a $478 million increase and a new fee on property owners who install solar panels on their homes and businesses.
If the proposal is passed, the new hike and fee would go into effect on Jan. 1, and many see it as Georgia Power’s way of adding a tax or tariff on people who attempt to use sustainable energy.
Almost two years after proposing a (controversial, to say the least) half-million square foot, $90 million mega-development at the Armstrong & Dobbs property and four months after winning the necessary zoning approval to move forward, Selig Enterprises is pulling out, citing rising costs.
Best Western recently filed plans for a seven-story tower at its motel at the corner of West Broad Street and North Milledge Avenue.
Longstanding rumors have proven to be true: Guitar Center, that monolith of modern musiciandom, will open an Athens-area location Nov. 7.
The store, which will be located on the Oconee Connector in the new Epps Bridge Centre development that also houses a Gap outlet, a megaplex and a bunch of other chain-y type stuff, will celebrate its existence Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. with a Grand Opening shindig featuring equipment sales, freebies and a performance from Atlanta Americana outfit The Deadfields.
Back in April, country megastar Jason Aldean made history as the first musical act to play between the hedges with his "Night Train" tour. The show, which featured guest appearances from Ludacris and Kelly Clarkson, was by all measures a smashing success.
Now, the singer is releasing a concert film documenting the experience. The aptly named Night Train to Georgia is out Oct. 15 and available for pre-order now (though why would you wanna do a thing like that), and yesterday fans "unlocked" the DVD's cover art by retweeting Walmart. That's some goddamn SYNERGY!
After the jump, watch the trailer.
