The OSOR's final performance, where the kids who attended this week's camp will show off their stuff, is tomorrow (Saturday, July 12) at 6 p.m. at Full Moon. It's free and open to the public.

The opening of the 2nd ATHICA Mystery Triennial took place on the evening of Saturday, May 17. The event was a fundraiser for ATHICA, the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art, and featured 5” X 7” works by about 100 local artists. All of these small artworks were displayed anonymously and were priced at $60 apiece, or two for $100. The identities of their creators were revealed only after the works were purchased.

Long Road Studios, a collective of clay artists formed in 2012, celebrated the grand opening of its new permanent home in Bishop on May 10. The doors were opened and the shelves were fully stocked as Jorie Berman, Laura B. Cooper, Juana Gnecco, Nancy Green, Melanie Sgrignoli, Kendall Steele and Caryn van Wagtendonk welcomed friends and patrons to their new space. To add to the variety of wares on offer, Sara Lee Parker’s hand-printed linens and Lisa Pickett’s soaps were also on hand and will be carried at the gallery. Friend and guest artist Jim Norton had his jewelry on display for the opening, too.

Five gardens in Glenwood were on view Sunday, May 4 for the first-ever “Glenwood Garden Hop,” a tour which showcased the diversity of styles found in this Mid-Century wooded Athens neighborhood. The event was conceived by two organizations: the Glenwood Girls, a group of young women new to the neighborhood and gardening, and the Glenwood Garden Club, a group of seasoned gardeners who first organized in 1955. The loveliest aspect of the event may have been seeing multiple generations of women bonding over their shared love of gardening.
Books for Keeps, a local nonprofit that gives books to children, needs new storage space after the roof of the warehouse it was using collapsed in a storm.
Athens poet, social worker and author Lemuel LaRoche, a.k.a. LIFE, has made it his, er, life's work to improve his community, using unconventional tools like art, chess and music to educate and connect local underserved African American youths.
Now comes a new documentary called LIFE the Griot, directed by local filmmaker Matt DeGennaro and produced by Grady Thrasher and Kathy Prescott. You can watch the trailer after the jump.
