The James Beard Awards released both its book/journalism awards and the shortlist of restaurant/chef awards yesterday, and Five & Ten didn't make the cut for "best restaurant" (see our earlier post about the nomination).
Recently you may have noticed, during a commercial break from "Vanderpump Rules"—or whatever it is you watch after work when it's only 6 p.m. but it's already dark out and pissing rain and you just wanna dissolve into your couch with a box of Bagel Bites and a jug of Carlo Rossi and forget about life, man—a familiar song emanating from your television.

Last October, Ciné hosted a star-studded "rough-cut screening" of What Doesn't Kill Me… The Life and Music of Vic Chesnutt, a documentary film directed by former Athenian and Chesnutt associate Scott Stuckey.
At the time, Stuckey and producer John "JoJo" Hermann told Flagpole they were unsure when the film would actually be released; rumors swirled that a rift between Stuckey and Chesnutt's wife, Tina Whatley Chesnutt, was the reason for its delay.
"It's Friday," the charmingly democratic WUGA-FM radio series that features live musicians performing in-studio each week, will air its final episode tomorrow, Friday, June 26. Host and producer Robb Holmes, who has worked at WUGA since 1987, will retire following the series finale.

Athens resident and UGA music business lecturer David Lowery—he of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven fame—is an outspoken critic of the revenue-sharing system that has been established in the era of digital media. So, one would expect Lowery to have much to say about Apple Music, the tech giant's ballyhooed new streaming platform, which it announced yesterday.

Oconee County lost another local news and information site on Friday with the closing of The Oconee Leader, the county’s largely free circulation weekly newspaper.
Publisher Rob Peecher announced the decision to close the newspaper in a front-page “note of thanks to our readers and advertisers” in Friday’s paper.
Peecher cited continued financial problems going back several years as the reason for the decision to close the paper. Friday’s was the last edition of the paper.
HBO's noirish crime drama "True Detective" returns this June for a second season starring Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, and the Internet is very excited about it.
