A regional flyball tournament at the Classic Center last weekend brought some very good puppers—and their people—to Athens from all over the Southeast.
In flyball, two teams of four dogs each race over a series of hurdles, then trigger a spring-loaded box to release a ball that they fetch and carry back to their handlers. The sport provides dogs with mental stimulation and physical exercise while creating camaraderie among teammates and building a bond between canines and their human handlers.
The annual tournament took place July 13 and 14 and was hosted by Double Dog Dare, a flyball club out of Winterville.

The 2019 Flagpole Athens Music Awards show kicked off AthFest at the Morton Theatre on Thursday, where local musicians took home awards in 20 categories based on a reader vote. The night's big winner was folk-rock group Family and Friends, which took home both the Album and Artist of the Year awards.

2019 was reportedly the first year Bonnaroo has sold out since 2013, with around 80,000 people filling the farm throughout the weekend. Once I got used to the crowds, the 2-mile hike to camp and the never-ending porta-potties, I had the time of my life.
